Edgemont Veterinary Clinic is happy to share this amazing story of recovery from one of our clients.
On June 3rd, 2014 our 55lb Doberman x Boxer x Husky cross was jumping into the back of our dog walkers car when an SUV came speeding around the corner and hit her from behind. The SUV proceeded to drag her for half a block without ever stopping to help or even see if she was okay.
Our poor pooch had internal bleeding and suffered major road rash burns to 1/3 of her body. She was a mess. The emergency vet prepared us for the heart breaking reality that Bug might not make it through the night. Thanks to the excellent care she received at the 12th ave emergency vet, Bugsy survived. Next came the daunting process of recovery. Initially, we were told that were going to have to amputate her front left leg; the wounds were so deep that the ligaments and muscle tissue was completely destroyed. We started Bug on two pain medications, antibiotics, hydrotherapy, and dressing changes up to four times a day.
Bugsys recovery was slow and painful until we started laser treatments during the second week of recovery at the Edgemont vet. Once we started biweekly laser treatments her recovery pace tripled. I have never seen wounds heal that fast! She was in noticeably less pain, the swelling was significantly reduced, and she was starting to bear weight and regain mobility in her front left leg. The laser treatments were completely painless, non-invasive and had no negative side effects. The treatments significantly increased our dog’s quality of life, and eased the process of recovery for our whole family. I highly recommend the laser treatments as a vital component of recovery for your beloved family pet. Today, I have a fully intact, rambunctious, 100% healthy and happy dog. A few months ago I would never have thought that was possible. Thank you to Dr. Kerr and all the wonderful staff at the Edgemont Veterinary Clinic. We could not have done this without you.
