Is Pet Health Insurance Worth It? It Sure Is …

Is Pet Health Insurance Worth It?

We would have to say, “Yes, yes it is!”

“Why?” you might ask? Well consider this; 63% of pet families are not able to produce $500 in the event of emergency. Depending on the situation, an emergency trip to the vet could cost anywhere from $200- $10,000, considering nearly two thirds of the population wouldn’t be able to produce $500, imagine how few could produce several thousand!
This is where Pet Health Insurance comes into play. Pet Health Insurance provides protection against those unexpected expenses that you may otherwise have difficulty paying for out of pocket.
Now you may have had healthy pets, and may assume that pet health insurance would not be worth it for them. We  would have to disagree with that assumption, you NEVER know what the future may hold.

We love your pets as much as you do and we would hate for anything to happen to them, so in saying that, having Pet Health Insurance assists both you and your veterinary practice in providing them with the absolute best care possible.

It’s Not Worth It, There Are Too Many Exclusions!

If you have considered Pet Health Insurance and found that there were way too many exclusions for your pets needs, we would highly recommend considering other companies. Such as with human medical and benefits insurance, there are many options out there and quite a few of them will tailor a policy to your needs!

A Visit To The Vet Can’t Be That Expensive, I Would Never Get My Monies Worth!

To better understand the costs associated with a veterinary visit of an unwell fur baby, lets walk you through the typical procedure most vets will take. We will of course start with a physical examination. A physical examination  cost can range anywhere from 60-100$. Then depending on the situation, the veterinarian may want to run various diagnostics and those costs vary quite a bit from as low as $60 upwards to $300. In very serious cases, even after running tests we may still have to refer your pet to a specialist or emergency focused hospital and that will undoubtedly result in even other fees.

With each case being just as unique as every pet it is nearly impossible to predict potential future costs, hence the important of being prepared for the unexpected.

Is A Pet Emergency Savings Account An Alternative To Insurance?

A savings account for your pet is a great idea, but it’s not a replacement for pet insurance; it should be in addition to it. The reason? What if two months into your savings plan, your pet becomes seriously sick or injured and requires treatment totaling several thousand dollars? You may not have quite enough to cover it. That’s when a pet insurance policy comes in handy. Situations like this happen all the time in veterinary hospitals around the country.
If you are willing to spend $5000, $10,000 or more on your pet, but are worried about how you would afford it, we strongly recommend you purchase Pet Health Insurance.

*Remember as with any insurance policy, you are liable for the deductible typically for each condition, so make sure you would have sufficient funds in the bank to cover those costs, should they ever be needed.

So… Is Pet Health Insurance Worth It?

YES, YES, & YES!!!

Now that you know a little more about the benefits of having pet insurance, you may have a few more questions.

And here at Edgemont Veterinary Clinic, we are happy to answer those questions 🙂

We can provide you with recommendations for Pet Health Insurance Companies that we have worked with, who in turn can provide detailed information about a policy that fits your family pet’s needs.

*Remember, the best time to take out a policy is as soon as you bring your new pet home, when they are happy & healthy*

When you schedule a Physical Examination for your pet with us, we are pleased to be able to provide you with a complimentary 30 day trial. This is immediate coverage for accidents or illnesses, (as long as it is not a pre-existing condition) and provides your pet with coverage while you consider your options.

Don’t worry! There is no contract in place with a free 30 days of protection, so if you choose not to take out a policy with that company you don’t even need to cancel! It’s as easy booking your appointment with us.

Have the peace of mind knowing that you can provide your fur baby with the care you want to give them without the financial stresses that are often involved. Worry about your pet, not your bank balance…

Contact us today on 403. 239. 4657 and speak with our Pet Health Insurance Liaison, Stephanie for more information, to discuss which companies we work with, or if you would like to schedule an appointment.

We look forward to hearing from you!
