The following notes were created by clients who have had success in slowing down how quickly their puppy eats while providing valuable mental stimulation at the same time.
Owning a puppy is a wonderful experience, and it’s also an exhausting one. My wife and I have a 3 month old Brittany Spaniel named Murphy. We started feeding Murphy out of your typical food bowl and he would usually finish his meal in under 2 minutes. It wasn’t very engaging and we looked for ways to prolong his meal time. Dr. Kerr suggested several solutions during feeding time that would not only slow down meal time but would also make meals more rewarding by using Murphy’s natural instincts of foraging for food and problem solving.
We use several puzzles now for his meal time and it has increased his eating time from 2 minutes to 20 minutes!
The Maze Bowl
This bowl is amazing! Murphy has to push his food from the middle to the outside. I’ve used both wet and dry food in this bowl.
The Treat Ball
There is a hole in the middle of the ball and Murphy has to roll it around for the treats to fall out. This one is harder than it looks and it’s one of his favorites!
The Trap Bowl
This one is fun. Murphy has to lift the various flaps to find where his food his hidden! .
I bought most of these on amazon but you can also find them in pet stores across the city.
