We are happy to share with you the update letter we received from Dia our sponsored guide dog!
Hi there, it’s me, Dia!
Can you believe I’m 9 and ½ months old?! I’m still a pup and continue to grow!
I recently experienced some pain in my legs and begin to limp. My Puppy Raisers gave me extra love and snuggles when they saw I was in discomfort. They began to worry about me so they made an appointment for me to see my Puppy Doctor. The Puppy Doctor took xrays and game me a thorough checkup. My Puppy Doctor concluded I was a fit and healthy girl and that I was simply experiencing ‘growing pains’.
Otherwise, I’ve had a wonderful summer filled with fun adventures, rest, and relaxation. I attended my first rodeo and was fortunate to have front row seats!! My Puppy Raisers thought the rodeo would be a good opportunity for me to practice my obedience and self-control, and boy, were they right! I watched horses and bulls run by, kicking up dirt in my direction. I worked hard to stay calm and be in control of my emotions, and my efforts paid off! I was on my best behaviour, and my Puppy Raisers were able to enjoy the rodeo. They told me how proud they were of me and that I was a good girl!
I recently celebrated my Puppy Raisers’ daughter’s 10th birthday. This was an exciting birthday for her and she invited her friends to go bowling. I am known to get overexcited, but, oh my gosh, 10 year old girls get REALLY REALLY REALLY excited! They laughed and giggled at every attempt to knock the pins down.
I recently experienced celebrity status! In June I was featured in the Calgary Herald newspaper. I also attended a Stampede Breakfast in July. It was great to see so many people come out to meet those of us new to the training program, as well as those of us who have been in it for a while.
When I am out in public I always wear my special blue BC and Alberta Guide Dog in Training jacket. When I wear my jacket, it allows me to go anywhere humans go. It’s important for me to be socialized and introduced to everything a person may encounter.
I am going to sign off now as I hear my Puppy Raiser’s daughters calling me. I hope it’s play time!!
