Examinations

A regular Health Examination includes examination of your pet’s basic bodily systems (e.g. cardio-vascular, respiratory, musculo-skeletal, oral, visual, otic (ears)), which contributes towards an evaluation of overall health.  Blood pressure testing and bloodwork may be recommended for more thorough evaluation.

We listen and discuss with you any concerns around changes in behaviour, appetite, bodily functions, mobility, and comfort.

Benefits of regular health examinations include:

  • Early detection of health issues
  • Monitoring and management of chronic conditions
  • Weight management
  • Travel health protection
  • Preventative health management
    • Zoonotic diseases (preventing animal to human transmission of infections)
    • Discussion of how preventative measures can enhance life longevity and quality

Preventative Care

Preventive Care management begins with an assessment for your individual pet based on lifestyle, age, and breed specific health risks and how they can be reduced. Patient lifestyle specific vaccines, parasite prevention, and methods to protect them from disease prior to illness are discussed.

Hospice Care

Hospice Care for your beloved pet encompasses all that can be done to ensure your pet benefits from the best comfort and management of their environment in their later stages of their life. This includes consideration of pain management strategies, physiotherapy, environmental adaptations and all possible compassionate considerations. Consider arranging a house call with us for your pet if mobility is too compromised to come to the clinic.

Weight Management

Maintaining optimal weight has been proven to enhance longevity and reduce risk of cardiac, respiratory, joint diseases and cancer. Obesity in pets is a common disorder and having a weight management plan in place is beneficial in your pet’s overall health. Weight management consultations focus on choosing appropriate diet, calorie management, and an exercise program for your pet.

Housecalls

Providing quality, convenient, non-emergency services in the comfort of your home, such as annual physical exams, vaccinations, blood or urine collection, nail trims, and euthanasia.

Dental Care

Dental disease prevention and management for overall health. Veterinary Dentistry is the cleaning, scaling and polishing of the teeth, with surgical extractions if recommended. This is done under general anesthetic to protect the airway from bacteria and debris. Anesthesia allows for complete and comfortable evaluation and treatment as needed of your pet’s mouth, 360’ around each tooth and area. As with humans, periodontal dental disease impacts not only doggie breath, but the bone and tissues supporting the teeth, and the body as a whole when pain and infections are not addressed.

Surgery

We provide a high standard of quality care and services including routine spay, neuters, general surgical procedures and some orthopedic surgeries. Our dedicated sterile surgery suite filled with all the monitoring equipment possible ensures the safest possible surgery and best outcomes for your pet.

Diagnostic Lab Services

This typically involves testing blood, urine or other fluids for cell and enzyme levels, infectious agents, toxins, and other causes of disease.

Diagnostic Imaging

Digital radiographic imaging is used for imaging bones and soft tissues. Various medical conditions can be diagnosed on the spot, or we have the option to use telemedicine to refer to a boarded radiologist for their evaluation. Ultrasound is another technology we have available to help ensure prompt and accurate diagnosis. Ultrasonography allows for a different look into organs such as liver, kidney, bladder, uterus and heart to support diagnosis.

Acupuncture / TCM

Veterinary acupuncture and holistic medicine are alternatives to conventional medical treatment.  Also known as Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), this treatment approach uses acupuncture, acupressure, herbal and diet therapies to treat animals and ensure their long term health.

It is a holistic approach to health that considers your pet’s health history, personality, age, diet, sleeping, eating habits, and many other factors when developing a treatment plan.

TCVM treatments can be used alone or in conjunction with conventional Western medicine.  When used together, TCVM therapies can sometimes lower the doses of pharmaceuticals required, control or prevent side effects, enhance quality of life, and occasionally eliminate the need for medicine altogether.

Ask us about some of the common health and behaviour issues that can be treated using TCVM.

Chiropractics

Veterinary Chiropractic care for animals compliments traditional veterinary medicine by focusing on the biomechanics of the spinal column. Adjusting the spine and joints by hand can help to remove nerve interference and allows the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Chiropractic therapy can be used to treat lameness, reduced neck flexibility, neck and back pain, poor performance and lack of mobility.

Used together, chiropractic and traditional veterinary care provide the maximum health benefits.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition Therapy uses a combination of acupuncture, food therapy and herbals to treat or assist in treating chronic conditions such as allergies, arthritis, spinal cord disease, seizures, gastrointestinal conditions and cancer.

Therapeutic Laser

Therapy laser treatment is available to promote faster healing of wounds and surgical incisions, as well as to treat chronic problems such as muscle and joint pain, arthritis, muscle spasm and stiffness. In this treatment, photons of light in the infrared range stimulate tissue at the cellular level. This deep stimulation leads to normalization of cell function, pain relief, and healing. Damaged cells respond more readily than healthy cells to the energy transfer from laser therapy, and laser therapy has been shown capable of causing cell regeneration. It can also be used immediately post injury.

Benefits include:

  • Accelerated tissue repair and cell growth; faster wound healing; pain reduction
  • Reduced inflammation, swelling and edema; reduced scarring
  • Increased cell metabolism
  • New blood vessel formation; increased circulation
  • Enhanced antioxidant levels
  • Improved nerve function
  • Immunoregulation

Laser Therapy for Pets

Stem Cell/PRP Therapy

Stem cell therapy is a process that allows us to surgically collect, then isolate and activate your pet’s own natural building blocks. These are used for repairing damaged tissues after injection into damaged areas where they go to work rebuilding tissue.

PRP is a non-surgical and advanced means of providing high doses of the body’s own healing factors directly to the area they are needed. PRP is a new therapy, and is being used as an adjunct to enhance the rate and quality of body healing.
